Many people comtemplating purchasing a puppy are additionally impacted by not having a local reputable breeder, and what the consequences of shipping a little puppy might be. These real-life reports from owners that have had puppies shipped to them are meant to help you in that decision. We also include thoughts from those who travel with their cockapoo. Please note -the NACR does not encourage shipping a puppy in lieu of visiting the breeder and bringing the puppy home yourself, but there are cases when that just is not possible, and should not necessarily be a deterrent to you not bringing to your home a cockapoo to love and that will love you.
We got Annie on Sunday March 26th. She had first flown from a small airport in New York to Cinn. Ohio. She had a change of planes and lay over there arriving in Denver at 2:10 . By this time she had been in her crate for about 8 hours. Carol had done a wonderful job filling the crate with shredded newspapers, Annie had a bowl of food, which still had food in it, and a "rabbit" type watering bottle. When we first got her out of the crate she was a bit lethargic. We took her out to the parking lot, and found a little bit of grass and dirt. She walked around for a few minutes, and then went potty. We talked with her and petted her for about 15 minutes. We did not put her back into her crate, I just held her on my lap back to our house, about a 35 minute drive. All of the time she was real quiet, but would lick my face and look out of the window. Annie was 8 weeks old when she made the trip. When we got home we put her down on the front lawn. She looked to her right, kinda of jumped around to her left and started running around the yard ears back and little legs going about 100 miles an hour. She was home and she knew it. We took her to the vet on Monday morning to make sure all was well. They thought she was great. Her temperament was fine. She played and didn't even wince with her shots. She has done wonderfully. She loves her crate. Still sleeps in it every night, and is also in the crate if I have to leave her during the day, which isn't very often. She shows no fear of the crate at all. We also travel with her in the motor home. She is going on her 4th trip in a month this coming weekend. She sometimes sleeps in the crate, or rides on my lap, and sometimes rides on the dash in her dog bed. I really feel that the original flight has had absolutely no long term ill affects at all. I would say that within the first hour she was home she was totally relaxed. I would hope that anyone wanting a cockapoo would not let the fear of a airplane flight stop them from getting a puppy. I would be more than happy to talk with them by email. Thanks, Judy and Steve T., Annie Louisville, CO judy-ttc@msn.com
"When they brought his crate in he was standing up and looking out
so
anxious to meet us. He was shaking a little with excitement but more or
less acted like he flies every day! We were really surprised. He was
happy
to be held and welcomed us with kisses, but didn't seem afraid or upset
at all. The kids held him on the way home, which is a one hour ride,
and
he just snuggled and enjoyed looking around. We think he's terrific."
"I had Sadie shipped from Dutchess County in New York - Mulberry
Farm
(Carol). We had to wait until it was not so hot before we could
ship
her. Carol put her on an airplane all by herself! She had to take two
planes
to get to Sacramento CA. I was a basket case! But the cool thing was I
got to track her the hole way from Newburgh NY. to Salt Lake City then
Sacramento CA. She came on DASH priority first class, Delta Air.
Getting
to see where she was the whole time in the air, over my compter was the
BEST. When she landed I was still tracking her, the airports gave me a
# so I could keep track of her the whole time, after Carol put her in
the
air! I knew when she landed and took off from the airports. The flight
person/ people even let me know what time to leave my house so we could
pick her up. She was the first one off the plane - they took her to the
dash office, a flight person did, and we where all waiting for her! It
was so very cool!!! I was in tears... When we took her out
she was clean and the happiest little thing you ever saw. When we got
to
car we opened the back, let her walk around and drink some cold water.
My daughter held her the whole way home. At home she checked things
out,
than pigged out on food. I could not believe she ate after coming so
far
and not being used to any of us. It was a trip! When she was eating I
e-mailed
Carol so she would not worry anymore about Sadie! She is so happy, good
with kids, and loves our black lab Lady, who is 7yrs old. Sadie has the
best personality - she loves babies, people and other dogs, my
Iguana
and the car." - Wendy H., California
