The NACR is dedicated to the
preservation, protection and development of the Cockapoo per its
mission statement. It expects NACR participating breeders to be
dedicated to the same. To be an NACR Breeder in good standing, all
cockapoo breeding stock, litters and dogs are to be registered to the
fullest extent of eligibility as defined with this procedure:
- Breeding stock (Cockers, Poodles and Cockapoos) at time of kennel
registration are registered, per dog.
- Any additional breeding stock brought in or kept from litters are
registered, per dog.
- All litters are registered at birth (this initiates the process
for each pup in the litter, but signifies ONLY the litter); litter
registration should be completed no later than four weeks after birth.
- Every dog is registered individually, by the age of 8 weeks, by
the breeder. If a dog is spoken for the breeder registers it to the new
owner, otherwise the dog is registered to the home kennel until such
time as the dog is rehomed. Whether a pup is placed by sale, kept for
breeding, or remains in the home kennel until a later re-homing does
not change the registration requirements. Older puppies being rehomed
will have their registrations transferred to the new owner at the time
of rehoming.
- Each NACR breeder educates their clients on registration and
encourages future followup with the NACR should the ownership of the
dog change; likewise the NACR should be notified upon the death of a
dog or major changes in health status.
- NACR Breeders are encouraged to follow sound ethical
breeding, health and business procedures.
- NACR Breeders are encouraged to voluntarily
participate with the major national genetic health databases with their
breeding stock.
An NACR Breeder supports the NACR
completely and to
the fullest in terms of registering and maintaing registrations of all
of their pups and dogs, or they are not an NACR breeder according to
the genetic database; this is how registry databases function by
definition. In order for a breeder to be and remain an NACR breeder in
good standing, there are no exceptions; "partial" participation is not
an option. By definition of the mission and purpose of the NACR, all
resulting cockapoos must be represented in the database regardless of
whether they are considered to be "good" cockapoos or not, whether they
are rehomed quickly or not, whether they are used for breeding in your
own kennel or not (and ESPECIALLY in this case) - the gene pool is not
a viable and useful tool for the future of the cockapoo unless there is
full support and development. It is as important, perhaps more so - to
be able to track "less than perfect" cockapoos as well as the ones
commanding top dollar or breeding demand. All of the dogs in a
breeder's
program need to carry individual registrations to their fullest
eligibility including all new dogs that you bring into the program,
puppies sold to pet owners or other breeders, or puppies that are kept
for breeding stock. Upon rehoming or exchanging breeding stock with
other kennels, or the
retirement/death of a dog, registrations should be transferred and
information updated with the NACR.
NACR Breeders in good
standing are entitled to the
Registered Breeder benefits free of additional charges beyond
registration fees:
- be listed on the NACR Breeder Listing web pages
- be provided puppy listings on the NACR Available Puppies/Older
Cockapoos web page
- be provided listing on the NACR Stud Service, Breeding Stock web
pages
- be provided the support of the NACR community and resources
- be provided NACR graphics for their own websites
- be entitled to use the NACR in their kennel advertising
Only fully registered dogs
are
eligible to be listed on the Puppies Available, Stud Services, Breeding
Stock or Older Cockapoos pages or sections.
The NACR administration
does not
levy ratings or other subjective evaluations upon participating
breeders. It does however, reserve the right to remove from the roll a
breeder who is not in full support of the NACR as demonstrated by
(including
but not limited to): not
submitting and maintaining registrations to the fullest eligibility of
all cockapoos (puppies or adult dogs), cocker spaniels or poodles
whether dogs are being bred or rehomed (registration
certificates will be sent directly to the new owner); not
educating and encouraging all new owners to complete and maintain owner
registration;
repeatedly generating complaints to the NACR regarding health of
puppies; denigrating another NACR breeder.
If it becomes known to the NACR that a
breeder is not following up and maintaining registrations as specified
above, by such avenues (but not limited to) verbal reporting from
outside sources, advertising posted on outside sources or input from
new or prospective owners, then the breeder will be contacted (by
either email or postal mail) to allow for such registration lapses to
be rectified. However, three such failures or the failure to respond to
the NACR communications (of which there will be at least three
attempts) will constitute grounds for the breeder to be removed from
the NACR listing and all related benefits suspended.
If it becomes known the NACR that a
breeder is being repeatedly reported for selling ill or otherwise
compromised puppies, again three contacts will be attempted for the
breeder to submit explanation and/or rebuttal. Failure to respond
and/or
three such undefended complaints shall again be grounds for removal
from the NACR breeder listing.
The NACR strives to provide the
grounding and foundation to carry the cockapoo into the future; it
cannot be done without the full support of the breeders bringing these
dogs into the world. We fully understand breeding is a business but the
NACR is no different than any other registry or professional
association that would designate your dedication to your profession.
The NACR is dedicated to supporting the cockapoo and its breeders but
the breeders must in turn be dedicated to the NACR if this is going to
provide benefit to the cockapoo. Participation in the NACR is
voluntary, but once a member, that breeder is either in full compliance
and support of the NACR or not and all dogs/pups in a participating
member's cockapoo breeding program are registered to the fullest
eligibility, or the breeder is not in compliance and support of the
NACR.
The NACR does not accept for
participation in the registry such breeders that sell to pet shops or
other wholesale outlets. Breeders holding a USDA license for re-sale
may be considered via prima-facie evidence of such activity unless such
a breeder can and does submit reasonable proof that such a license is
held for other reasons. USDA license holders are matters of public
record and the NACR does cross check for such licensees.
